I have been spending so much time on the Internet since I was a little kid but I have never been able to blog regularly. I have started many blogs on different subjects (politics, travel, personal, internet...etc.) in the past but none of them were long-running projects.
However, last January, I decided to start blogging regularly and see how it will go this time. I preferred TypePad instead of Wordpress since there is a good opportunity to create a community that will regularly follow my posts. I started writing on 5 different blogs to see which one will last longer. After 4 months, the winner is my micro blog Random which is mostly about random things related to the Internet & technology.
TypePad Bookmarklet really helped me get on the track easily since it decreases the time spent on creating new posts. For the first time, I started posting regularly and at the end of 4 months, I have 59 posts, 27.71 pageviews/day and 2605 pageviews. Pageviews/month is doubled each month and May stats almost catched previous month within 4 days.
Why StumbleUpon is better than Facebook Like?
TypePad integrated Facebook like functionality the first week it got announced to the public. I implemented it right away and already got 2 random people liked my blog. However, these people are not my friends/followers on Facebook/TypePad and they probably found my blog through StumbleUpon.
60% of my visitors are coming from StumbleUpon, whereas Facebook only provided less than 2%. Friends in your Facebook network might not share your interests but StumbleUpon finds users with similar interests and show them your posts depending on their needs. It gets even better if your visitors keep on liking your pages.
Long story short, use TypePad bookmarklet for easy blogging and StumbleUpon for spreading the word. That's the secret sauce behind finding the right audience for your blog.
